Yes, at any time. Log into your member account or contact us and we will update it immediately, whether you want to increase, reduce, or switch between monthly and annual payment.
Yes. If you are going through a financially difficult time, you can pause your membership for up to three months and resume when you are ready. Just write to us at [email protected] or WhatsApp us at [number]. We would rather you pause than cancel, and we will never question you about it.
Ghana-based members pay in Ghana Cedis (GHS). Diaspora members in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, and Singapore pay in US Dollars (USD). We made this choice deliberately so that Ghanaians are not exposed to exchange rate changes that make their membership unexpectedly expensive.
Yes, Mobile Money is our preferred payment method for Ghana-based members. We accept MTN MoMo, Vodafone Cash, and AirtelTigo Money. On the payment page, select Mobile Money and follow the prompt. If anything goes wrong, send us a WhatsApp on [number] and we will walk you through it personally.
Write to Michael Etrue at [email protected], or send us a WhatsApp on [number]. We respond within 24 hours usually much faster. You will always reach a real person, not a bot.
You are welcome to send us story tips, we genuinely want to hear from you. But membership does not change how editorial decisions are made. Our editors and journalists decide what to investigate based on public interest, not based on who has paid. No member, donor, advertiser, or funder has ever directed a Fourth Estate investigation. That separation is exactly what your membership is protecting.
Yes. All payments are processed through our payment processor, Paystack, which is duly licensed by the Bank of Ghana. We never see your full card number or Mobile Money PIN those are handled directly by the payment processor and never pass through our systems. You can make any payment here with the same confidence you would use your own bank's website.
No. A subscription means you pay to see things others cannot see. Our journalism stays free for all Ghanaians whether you pay or not. Membership is a choice to fund work you believe matters, more like contributing to a community borehole than paying for a DSTv package.
You get:
• A member-only newsletter with exclusive content
• Early access to major investigations before they are published widely

We will notify you within 24 hours if a payment does not go through. We will never quietly drop your membership without telling you first. You can update your payment details at any time by logging into your member account or writing to us at [email]. We will always try to resolve a payment issue with you before cancelling a membership.
The minimum is GHS 20 a month. You choose the amount. If you can give more, it makes a larger difference. If GHS 20 is what works for you right now, that is genuinely meaningful and we are grateful for it.
Every cedi or dollar from members goes directly into the cost of producing journalism: journalist salaries, legal defence, travel for field reporting, data subscriptions and tools for investigations, and the operational running costs of the newsroom. We will never use member money for purposes outside journalism without disclosing it.
If you choose a recurring monthly membership, your chosen amount will be charged on the same date each month. You will receive a reminder email before every renewal so you always know when a charge is coming. You can cancel at any time, through your member account, by email, or by WhatsApp, and you will not be charged again. There are no penalties and no complicated cancellation processes.
Yes. A payment confirmation is sent automatically to your email after every payment. If you need a formal receipt for your employer, your accountant, or your own records, write to [email] and we will send one within two business days.
No. We will never sell, share, or pass on your personal information to any third party including government agencies, advertisers, or partner organisations. Your name, contact details, and payment information are used only to manage your membership. You can request that we delete your data at any time by writing to [email protected].
Our journalism will always be free to read; we will never put it behind a paywall. But becoming a member is not about paying for access, it is about choosing to stand behind a mission.
The Fourth Estate membership exists to support public-interest journalism that improves lives and society and drives positive change. That means quality in-depth journalism which always benefits the citizens, investigates wrongdoing by the powerful in society, exposes abuse of public office, and reports what others will not or cannot so that Ghana is better governed, more transparent, and more accountable to its citizens.
That work costs money. Journalist salaries, travel to where the story is, and the resources demanded by careful sustained digging. It also costs money to defend. When powerful interests challenge our reporting through legal action, we fight back, and that fight is expensive.
Grant funding from our international partners helps, but grant funding is precarious by nature. Grant cycles end, donor priorities shift, and no grant comes with a guarantee of renewal. A newsroom that depends entirely on grants is always one funding decision away from a crisis.
Your membership builds something more durable: a stable, recurring foundation that means this journalism does not disappear when a grant cycle closes. Your support does not replace our grants. It makes us less dependent on them and it makes this journalism more likely to still be here, still independent, and still fighting for the people in Ghana five, ten, and twenty years from now.
Your membership is your way of saying: this journalism matters in Ghana, this mission is worth protecting, and I am one of the people making it possible.
